Headingley Cricket Ground

Uniquely comprised of two stadiums built back-to-back (for rugby and cricket), Headingley Stadium is a core part of the sporting culture in Leeds. Home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Headingley Cricket Ground has also played host to top-flight international cricket since the early 1900s.

Only a short train ride away from Leeds, Headingley is a great base to see the city. Bursting with art galleries, theatres and historical homes, Leeds is at the heart of Yorkshire’s cultural reputation. It’s also a great shopping destination thanks to Kirkgate Market’s quirky stalls and the designer outlets of Victoria Leeds.

The picturesque Kirkstall Abbey is about 25-minute walk from Headingley rail station. A trip to these well preserved, dramatic ruins make a great late morning ramble.

By rail: Headingley rail station is a 10-minute walk from the stadium, although the station is mostly served by local services between Leeds and York. Visitors from other major cities will need to take a train to Leeds station before changing lines. A direct train to Leeds from London King’s Cross takes approximately 2hr15min; other cities with direct services to the city include Birmingham, York and Glasgow.

By car: Headingley is accessed via the M621 and A643. Drivers from London and southern England will want to travel via the M1, although the A1(M) also provides good access to Leeds. On-street parking is available around Headingley, although be wary of time restrictions and increased traffic during the World Cup. Parking may be easier at St Anne’s Corner which is about a 10-minute walk from the ground.
