Terre à Terre
For a special evening out, head to the iconic Terre à Terre one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in Brighton. Stimulate your taste buds with tantalising dishes like porcini polenta plumps, steamed rice buns stuffed with Szechuan marinated halloumi and ginger bok choy. Terre à Terre also serve vegan and vegetarian afternoon tea. If you’re still hankering after their gorgeous sweet treats when you get home, you can order fudge, biscotti, chocolate truffles and more from their online shop.
Planet India
Crispy onion bhajis and Punjabi-style samosas are some of the traditional street food on the menu at the pure vegetarian, Planet India. Try the khaman dhokla, a savoury cake served with yogurt and tamarind sauce, it’ll make your taste buds sing. Tuesdays to Thursdays are Thali Night, where you can order a set selection of dishes served on a round metal platter. This is perfect option if you can’t decide what to choose from Planet India’s impressive menu. Please note, Planet India is closed on Sunday and Mondays.
Purezza
You don’t have to skip the cheese to make your pizza vegan at this pizzeria. Purezza has managed to make vegan cheese into an art form serving delicious mozzarella, parmigiana and ricotta-style cheeses. As for your pizza base, choose from the heavenly light wholegrain sourdough, hemp flour or gluten free bases. And with gelato, lemon cheesecake or Purezza’s take on the classic Tiramisu, you’ll be spoilt for dessert too!
The Longhouse Cafe
It’s easy to spend a whole day at The Longhouse Cafe with its warm, bright interior and super-friendly service. Serving scrumptious soups, curries and salads, the cafe supports local traders by using vegan produce from the area. The community spirit extends with regular social events like film screenings, vegan wine tasting and art nights. The Longhouse Cafe does get very busy so you might have to wait a while for your grub – but it’ll be well worth it!
Gelato Gusto
Who says ice cream is best eaten on a warm sunny day? You’ll be eating vegan ice cream and sorbet all year round at Gelato Gusto. Traditionally a dairy ice cream parlour, Gelato Gusto has expanded to include an eye-opening range of vegan iced goodies. Using a range of plant-based milks, expect to see mouth-watering flavours like pistachio, banoffee pie, mint chocolate chip and chocolate brownie. Don’t forget the vegan friendly sorbets like lychee and rose, orange and mint and pink grapefruit.
Silo
Silo is not strictly a vegetarian or vegan restaurant as it occasionally has fish or meat dishes on its seasonal menu. However, that’s where the similarity ends. With an industrial décor, furniture made from upcycled material and jam jar glasses, the ethos behind the Silo is to achieve zero waste. Focussing on flavours and textures, expect to see dishes like charred shishito peppers and glazed celeriac with fermented potato on the menu. Prepare to have you conscience pricked and your taste buds challenged when dining here – it’s an experience not to be missed!
SIX Brighton
The interior of SIX Brighton oozes style and attention to detail with floral bouquets hanging from the ceiling and rustic Mediterranean inspired décor. Their carefully presented food is a feast for the eyes too, expect to see purees and veloutés artistically accenting your dish. Like Silo, SIX Brighton is not a vegetarian or vegan restaurant, but it has an impressive vegan menu using locally sourced and mostly organic fruit and vegetables. With top notch coffee from its own roastery and a generous vegan breakfast, this is a stylish place to have brunch.
