Make a beeline for the National Trust gem of Dunster Castle, a fortress turned comfortable family home. Peek inside the recently restored watermill, where you’ll learn how grain has been turned into flour on the site since Domesday.
Today you will be accompanied on your travels by the works of literary heroes, as you join an expert local guide on a literary footsteps walking tour. As tales of creativity abound you’ll discover the stunning landscapes that have inspired great novels and poems, before swapping Exmoor for Dartmoor National Park, located just over an hour away. Steeped in mystery, folklore and incredible history, Dartmoor is the most south-westerly National Park in England and is well-loved for its iconic granite tors and wild ponies.
Spend the day cycling the Granite Way on hired bikes. As you whizz along the cycle route which follows an old railway track between Okehampton and Lydford, you’ll take in the dramatic granite landscape dotted with iconic bridges and castles and will work up an appetite for a cream tea – a fitting end to your south-west parks experience!
