Diamond Jubilee Exhibitions in London

This year Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 60 years on the throne and it's going to be one of the biggest parties London has ever seen! But you don't have to wait until June to get into the Jubilee spirit. Special exhibitions are popping up all over London exploring just about everything regal! Five Diamond Jubilee exhibitions you shouldn't miss are: Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton at the V&A Featuring portraits of The Queen taken by royal photographer Cecil Beaton, this exhibition provides a fascinating glimpse of royal life, from the pomp and ceremony of The Queen's coronation, to relaxed moments with her family. Extracts from Beaton's diary accompany the images. Until 22 April Princess Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace by Cecil Beaton copyright V&A imagesRoyal River at the National Maritime Museum It's also a special year for the National Maritime Museum as it's celebrating its 75th birthday! Royal River explores the relationship between the Thames and the British monarchy. Leading historian David Starkey curated the exhibition, which features more than 350 paintings, manuscripts and rare objects. 26 April-9 September Greenwich Hospital from the north bank of the Thames, Canaletto, 1750 – 52 © National Maritime Museum, LondonAt Home with the Queen at Museum of London This fun exhibition shows just how much Londoners love The Queen. It features photographic portraits of Londoners at home with their favourite souvenirs of Her Majesty and the Royal Family. You can even see mementos from Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Best of all, entrance is free! 25 May-28 October At Home With the QueenThe Queen: Art and Image at the National Portrait Gallery This exhibition brings together 60 portraits of The Queen from her 60-year reign. The images include painting, photography and press images by artists including Lucian Freud, Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter. 17 May-21 October Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration at Buckingham Palace You'll actually have to wait until after the Diamond Jubilee for this one, but this sparkling display of diamonds used and worn by British monarchs during the last 200 years is worth the wait. Among the treasures are Queen Victoria's beautiful miniature crown and the Girls of Great Britain tiara, frequently worn by the Queen.
