Edgbaston

Situated in Birmingham, central England, Edgbaston Cricket Ground is the UK’s biggest cricket venue outside London. Brian Lara made history here in 1994 when he became the first (and so far only) batsman in the world to score 501 while playing for Warwickshire.

    A few miles west of the stadium you’ll find the Edgbaston Park Hotel, a new hotel that cleverly mixes modern interiors with its historic buildings. If you’re watching your pennies, rest your head at the Ibis Budget Birmingham, closer to the city centre. Hotels near the Edgbaston Stadium fill up fairly quickly so book well in advance of your trip. 

    Things to do near Edgbaston Stadium

    Edgbaston is a leafy suburb of Birmingham, making it the perfect spot for Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses. This Victorian-style park has four glasshouses, a playground and a tea room set across 15 acres of landscaped greenery. A stone’s throw away from the stadium is the Midlands Arts Centre, where you can see modern art exhibitions, watch plays, dance shows and independent films.  There’s more art to enjoy at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, a collection of paintings, sculpture and coins housed in a gorgeous art deco building.

    By train: Birmingham New Street is the main train station in the city with good connections to the majority of Britain.  Catch the 45, 47, 61, 63 or 146 from Birmingham New Street Station and the cricket ground is a 10-minute walk away.
    By air: The nearest airport to Edgbaston is Birmingham Airport, six miles east of the city.
