London Olympics to Headline at VisitBritain’s Biannual Meeting for International Business Event Buyers

The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be the headline theme of VisitBritain’s first 2011 meeting for business event buyers which will showcase the UK’s MICE industry to 125 delegates from around the world, including senior buyers from the UAE.

Delegates attending ‘Discovery’ 2011 will take part in an exclusive tour of the Olympic Park located in East London, after which they will travel through the English countryside on the opulent Orient Express British Pullman train to Windsor Castle, before being transported to different parts of the UK for a unique look at what’s on offer for business events in England, Scotland and Wales.

“Next year’s Discovery event will showcase the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a way of raising the profile of Britain as an international events destination as part of VisitBritain’s bid to win new business events for London and Britain post-2012,” explained Carol Maddison UAE Manager, VisitBritain.

“The 125 delegates, including those from the UAE, will be able to meet face-to-face with those responsible for the best venues, hotels and ancillary facilities and services available in this sector across the UK, via a range of workshops, pre-set appointments, networking dinners and receptions,” added Maddison.

Discovery 2011 takes place between 27 February and 1 March to coincide with International Confex to help delegates maximise their time in the UK with the aim of generating more business for the UK’s meetings industry. Those expected to attend include senior association buyers from 35 markets across the world who are responsible for organising residential conventions of between 500 and 3,500 delegates that have not taken place in Britain in the last eight to10 years and are due to come to Europe between 2012-2020. VisitBritain estimates that the buyers, who are currently being sourced, will have a combined potential events budget of £500m to spend in Britain.
