Music in Newcastle

1. Find the best of all genres at RPM music

You won’t find Top 40 hits at RPM Music, but you’ll find pretty much everything else: indie, rock, hip-hop, electronic, funk, blues, plus an impressive collection of second-hand vinyl. The store also hosts its own music gigs and sells tickets for concerts all over the city (check its Facebook page for details).

2. See top performances at the Sage Gateshead

Sage Gateshead is truly a treat for the eyes and ears. Offering everything from classical and jazz, to indie and folk, no trip to Newcastle would be complete without catching a show at this iconic venue.

3. Discover the wonderful world of cabaret

Sip cocktails while listing to the musical stylings of Danni Dee and Miss Rory at Newcastle’s number one cabaret venue, Boulevard. Although shows change from season to season, expect spectacular choreography, dazzling costumes and side-splitting comedy in every show.

4. Enjoy the famous Newcastle nightlife

Slip on your dancing shoes and head to Digital, one of the city's biggest nightclubs featuring four rooms, a capacity of 1,400, and one of the best sound systems you'll ever hear – the Funktion-One dance stack. And don’t worry, you’ll hear it… they have four.

5. Get in the soul mood at Hoochie Coochie

If hard funk, solid soul, and cool jazz makes you feel all warm and tingly, Hoochie Coochie is the bar for you. Open until the small hours from Thursday to Sunday, the free, funky, soulful vibe never stops at this lively joint. And yes, there’s live music too. Check the schedule for an updated list of artists.

6. Treat yourself to a free lunchtime concert

Hear free live music every Thursday in the heart of town thanks to King's Hall Lunchtime Concerts. Organised by the International Centre for Music Studies, each concert begins promptly at 1:10 PM and lasts for approximately 50 minutes.
