Staying on a royal estate

The Queen stays at her Scottish home, Balmoral Castle, from August to October, when Balmoral is closed to the public. But four of the estate’s six self-catering holiday cottages remain open during this time, so you can stay in the grounds of the Queen’s summer residence, perhaps even as the Queen herself sleeps in Balmoral Castle. You don’t have to be an overnight guest to visit Balmoral though. Join a winter tour of the grounds, gardens and exhibitions or, for a wider-ranging experience, book a Safari tour of the estate and explore everywhere from the manicured gardens to the old Caledonian Pine Forest and the heather-lined hills and mountains.
