The summer brings a raft of new openings to Britain’s accommodation scene, from a hotel offering rooftop views of London’s iconic skyline, to another providing luxurious stays and spa treatments in the heart of Edinburgh. Whether it’s a setting for a city break or an escape to the coastline, here’s the lowdown on Britain’s newest openings, as well as the ones yet to open their doors.


Just opened…

Clayton Hotel, Bristol

Opened April 2022

Bringing a 4-star stay to Bristol’s city centre, the Clayton Hotel offers 255 guest rooms in the former historic site of the Edward Everard printworks. Located a short walk from Bristol Harbourside, one of the main leisure and retail areas, the hotel’s design pays homage to the city’s artsy influences. Comfort is key with each room offering a King Koil bed, large flat screen TV and air-conditioning. Guests can pick up breakfast, lunch and dinner from Everards Bar and Restaurant, featuring a menu filled with fresh seasonal produce, while guests can also make use of the onsite gym.


Gleneagles Townhouse, Edinburgh

Opened June 2022

Expanding on the current Gleneagles brand, this 33-room hotel in Edinburgh’s historic St Andrews Square adds an essence of luxury to Scotland’s accommodation scene. Look no further than the Gleneagles Townhouse rooftop bar and all-day restaurant for classic cocktails, delicious sharing dishes and Scottish produce cooked up by Scottish-born Head Chef, Jonny Wright. Guests and members can head down to the underground vault for holistic treatments, including a cryotherapy chamber, infrared sauna and gym.


Hotel Brooklyn, Leicester

Opened June 2022

Building on the success of its first British hotel in Manchester, Hotel Brooklyn has expanded its brand to Leicester. Inspired by the famed New York Borough, the 191 bedrooms all have an industrial feel, with exposed brickwork and a sleek loft style design. From accessible rooms, to a terrace hot-tub suite and pet friendly accommodation, Hotel Brooklyn offers something for everyone. As the hub of the hotel, The Lair brings a taste of Brooklyn to Leicester. The 120-cover restaurant offers an extensive all-day menu, alongside a la carte choices for lunch and dinner and bottomless brunch options.

Novotel Paddington Village, Liverpool

Opening July 2022

Soaring over Liverpool as the tallest hotel in the city, Novotel in Paddington Village will soon open its doors in the heart of the city’s Knowledge Quarter. Spanning 16 floors, guests can take advantage of amenities including an on-site gym, all day-dining restaurant and bar, and ground floor coffee shop. Offering panoramic views across the River Mersey, the hotel’s 221 rooms are all equipped with a 55-inch TV, with long-stay aparthotel accommodation also available.


Forty-Seven, 47 Peter Street, Manchester

Opening summer 2022

Occupying a former shipping warehouse, hotel Forty-Seven from KRO Hospitality will launch in Manchester this summer with 32 luxury guest rooms. With bold artsy interiors throughout which complement the building’s heritage, guests can expect a boutique hotel that gives a nod to its former days. For lavish dining, look to The Peterman hosting 24 guests in a uniquely suave setting, or for an evening meal, the onsite restaurant, Asha’s, will serve up award-winning authentic Indian cuisine. Exploring outside the hotel will allow guests to discover the heart of Deansgate, with its quirky bars, coffee shops and even axe-throwing.


art’otel at Battersea Power Station, London

Opening late summer 2022

Joining its current European counterparts in Amsterdam, Berlin, Budapest and Cologne, art’otel is set to open its doors in Battersea this summer. Set adjacent to the historic Battersea Power Station, the 164-room hotel will house a rooftop swimming pool and bar offering citywide views, including the iconic power station chimneys and River Thames. Inspired by a range of different art, award-winning Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon will bring bold colours and interiors to every inch of the hotel. In addition, guests can expect a rotating calendar of artistic exhibitions and cultural events at its public gallery creative space. In 2024, art’otel at Hoxton, a 343-room cultural hotel, will become London’s second art’otel by Raddison Hotels.  


1 Hotel London

Opening late 2022

Debuting as the brand’s British flagship hotel, 1 Hotel London Mayfair, will welcome its first guests in late 2022. For the sustainably minded traveller, the hotel offers a farm-to-table restaurant with garden seating, and a wellness centre offering guests the opportunity to find their zen during their stay. Its 184 guest rooms will span nine floors, with the interiors designed using locally sourced materials and room flooring created from fallen trees from local parks. Expect a relaxed social environment and modernity throughout this luxury lifestyle hotel which overlooks Green Park.


The Relais Cooden Beach Hotel, East Sussex

Opening with a full refurbishment winter 2022

Following its recent acquisition by international hotelier Grace Lea, The Relais Cooden Beach Hotel is currently in phase two of a renovation, with a full opening expected in winter 2022. The reinvention will see rooms upgraded, alongside the addition of a wellness experience offering treatments, therapies, a sauna, steam room and modern gym. Earlier in the year, the onsite restaurant was renovated, and now provides guests all-day dining options and afternoon tea overlooking the sea. Room interiors are designed to mimic the natural seascape, allowing guests to have a restorative escape – there’s also options to enjoy a morning yoga session on the private beach, wild swimming and water sports.


100 Princes Street, Edinburgh

Opening spring 2023

A location with many stories to tell, Edinburgh’s newest luxury hotel, 100 Princes Street, pays homage to those who once called it a home away from home. Previously a place for the Royal Over-Seas League, the hotel will be restored to retain its original features, with an added splash of modernity. Guests should expect a carefully curated menu offering, acclaimed Scottish whiskies and over 200 fine wines from family-owned vineyard Bouchard Finlayson. Boasting a 2:1 staff to guest ratio, service excellence will be provided to all 30 guest rooms and suites. The Princes Street offering joins the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, and will sit alongside its sister property, Hotel 41 in London.
