LGBT guide to Newcastle
OUT AND ABOUT
Whether you’re in the mood to sip a pint at a local pub or hear live tunes at a late-night club, Newcastle boasts one of the most thriving gay scenes in the UK. The liveliest gay bars are located between the Central Station and the Metro Radio Arena, in an area known locally as the “Pink Triangle” or “The Gay Village.” Feeling frisky? Head to Powerhouse, one of the only exclusively gay night clubs in the north east. But don’t forget to take a disco nap – it’s open until 5 AM on Saturday nights. Looking for somewhere a little less guest-list? Check out Rusty’s, a quirky cabaret bar home to live drag shows and delightfully cheesy pop music.
Location. Location. Location. That’s really the most important factor when choosing a hotel! Luckily, there’s tons of chic accommodations within walking distance of the city’s Pink Triangle, including Crowne Plaza Newcastle – Stephenson Quarter, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, and County Hotel Newcastle.
Feast on seasonal, locally-sourced meat and produce from the farms, coasts, and woodlands at Pleased To Meet You. Fusing modern British fare with classic French technique, you’re sure to find something to please even the pickiest palate (vegetarians too!).
Feeling fancy? Enjoy delicious dining with panoramic views of the city at Six, BALTIC’s rooftop restaurant. For an extra-special treat, stop by for Champagne Afternoon Tea and sample a selection of savoury sandwiches, sweet treats (be sure to try the glazed passionfruit and coconut cake), and of course, bubbly.
