Charlie Hunnam tells us about filming King Arthur in Britain!

Friday 31 March 2017

Charlie Hunnam may have his feet firmly planted on Hollywood’s A-list, but his heart is still most definitely in Britain. So much so, he even misses the weather.  “I miss the seasons, especially autumn” explains the 36-year-old actor.

So it’s no surprise that Hunnam, a Newcastle native, jumped at the chance to travel back to his home country to film Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ highly anticipated action-adventure King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, set for release beginning May 2017 around the world. To celebrate, the dashing English gent opened up about his favourite place for romance, his recent bromance, and his number one tip for anyone planning a trip to Britain.

What is the first thing you do when you return to Britain?
Have dinner with my mum and brothers.

Describe your ideal British meal
Prawn cocktail followed by a steak at a traditional country pub.

What lesson did your British hometown teach you?
Fortitude. It was tough economic times in Newcastle while I was growing up. The main industries were coal mining and shipbuilding, both of which were struggling. Plus, the weather can be brutal! Yet, there is a pervasive attitude of “Let’s just get on with it.” Strong people, the Geordies.

Where is your favourite place in Britain?
Rural Northumberland. There’s a ruggedness and loneliness about it that I find very stirring.

Where is the best spot for romance?
The Highlands of Scotland.

Where is your go-to spot to shop in Britain?
Ralph Lauren for its RRL line. Or any sneaker store.

What is the one thing everyone should do when visiting Britain?
See the north. Most visitors just see London or small pieces of the south, but there is so much beauty in the north, from the people to the landscape. I would highly recommend the Lake District. I spent my teenage years there and it is extraordinarily beautiful.

And lastly, we have to ask – what was it like working with David Beckham in King Arthur?
Beckham is obviously a superstar, and although his role in King Arthur is a cameo, he came to set determined to do a great job, which he did. It made me realize that all of the success he has achieved came from hard work and a hunger to do everything he does at the highest level.
