Film and TV locations in the Cotswolds

The sleepily unspoilt village of Bampton stands in for Downton village in TV series Downton Abbey. Visit the Crawley home, the church, pub, village green and hospital, and even take a Lady Grantham Afternoon Tea at nearby Heythrop Park Hotel.

In Series 2 of Downton Abbey, the Cotswolds was the site of scandal when Lady Sybil eloped with family chauffeur Branson. The pair went to Swinbrook in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, a pretty village where time seems to have stood still, and the Swan Inn.

You can visit Chavenage House, a traditional manor house set in beautiful Cotswolds countryside, which was used for scenes in the latest series of TV show Poldark.

Notting Hill and Love Actually actor Hugh Grant has a house in Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire, in the heart of the picturesque Cotswolds; he’s a keen golfer so it’s fortunate there’s a good course there!

When you visit the absolutely picture-perfect Cotswolds village of Castle Combe, it will come as no surprise that it has been used for many a film and TV series. To name but a few: Doctor Dolittle (1966), Stardust (2007), The Wolf Man (2010), War Horse (2011), and TV shows Poirot and Doctor Thorne.
