Monday 23 January 2017

Whether you prefer the unpredictability of jazz, or the heart-thumping beat of electronica, nothing beats the thrill of listening to live music. And lucky for you, there are plenty of awesome music venues in Britain that cater to every style and sensibility. Check out our favorites below.

Liverpool, England

Ever wished you could travel back in time and see the Beatles in their heyday? Here’s your chance! Swing by Liverpool’s Cavern Club—the venue where the band played their first-ever gig—and treat yourself to an evening of live Beatles music performed by a killer tribute band. Best of all—the club has been faithfully restored to its original décor, so you’ll really feel as if you’ve been transported to a different era.

Glasgow, Scotland / Edinburgh, Scotland

Stroll down any of the touristy streets in Edinburgh, and you’re bound to spot a bagpiper… or 12 along the way. If you’re looking for more than a lively street performance—or if you want to have a go at the pipes for yourself—head to the National Piping Centre in Glasgow for an in-depth look at 300 years of piping history, plus a 50-minute "Come and Try" tour. And should you want even more of an immersive bagpipe experience, consider visiting Glasgow during the annual Piping Live! Festival to take part in a week's worth of piping-themed activities.

Cardiff, Wales

Constructed from locally-sourced (and sustainable) Welsh materials, the striking Wales Millennium Centre has definitely made its mark on the Cardiff skyline. And the inside is pretty awesome too! Home to everything from opera to musical theatre, plus rock gigs and modern dance, there’s no shortage of ways to be entertained.

London, England

If smooth jazz in a speakeasy type setting is more you’re style, a trip to Ronnie Scott’s is London is a must! Since 1959, this Soho jazz club has held a special place on the jazz circuit, and has served as a stomping ground to some of the biggest musical names in history like Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, and Kurt Elling.

The best music venues are the ones with personality. The ones will walls so full of history and stories that you feel the tingles from the moment you step inside, like the Roundhouse in London. Formerly an old train shed, this Camden music venue is now considered one of the finest in the city, and has attracted some of the biggest names in music history like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, and David Bowie.
