Wednesday 09 November 2016

The 2014 Commonwealth Games created a lasting legacy for Scotland and Glasgow, and that legacy continues in August 2017, as the city hosts the exciting and esteemed TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships.

The TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships is the most prestigious tournament in the sport, rivalled only by the Olympic Games. Indeed the World Championships attracts a stronger overall entry than the Olympic Games with bigger draws in all events.

The TOTAL BWF World Championships is an individual tournament comprising five events - men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.  Nations from all over the world are invited to enter their players through the world ranking qualification system.

Showcasing only the top ranked singles and doubles players in the world, the TOTAL BWF World Championships will welcome multiple Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champions to Glasgow and the knock-out tournament format will require players to deliver world-class performances from the very first match.

Now rated in the top 5 sporting cities in the world, and voted as the world’s friendliest city by Rough Guides, the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships is certainly in good hands with Glasgow.

Make the most of your trip by visiting the fascinating museums and art galleries; eating delicious food; listening to great live music and attending some word-class events. You could even indulge in some retail therapy — the city is consistently voted top for shopping in the UK outside of London. Glasgow has renowned architecture, breath-taking scenery and beautiful parks… There really is something for everyone!

If you have time you could also explore the rest of Scotland as Glasgow is extremely well connected by air, rail and road. Less than an hour away, is the country’s capital Edinburgh – a remarkable city showcasing the blend of Scotland’s history, present and future. There are the majestic Highlands, with awe-inspiring landscapes and beautiful seascapes; and the hundreds of islands off the main land, waiting to be explored. Don’t forget the other cities Scotland has to offer, such as Stirling and Aberdeen – all filled with their own unique tales.

So, why not join us in Scotland for the BWF World Championships in 2017, and help us celebrate this fast and powerful sport!
