From lavish refurbishments to fresh new places to stay, Britain’s accommodation sector in 2020 is already off to a flyer. Alongside planned developments for the months ahead, visitors can discover exotic-inspired lodges in Yorkshire, stay in Florence Nightingale’s childhood home and enjoy a host of other stylish accommodation in all corners of the country.

Just opened

Florence Nightingale Suites at Lea Hurst, Derbyshire

Visitors can enjoy a romantic break in Florence Nightingale’s historic home at Lea Hurst, nestled on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The childhood home of the founder of modern nursing overlooks the World Heritage Listed Derwent Valley, around 16 miles from Derby, and features a number of period pieces and elegant artefacts. To mark the 200th anniversary year of the famous nurse, four suites are available, including Nightingale’s private sitting room.

Holiday Inn Express, Hull

Hull’s Holiday Inn Express has undergone a makeover to transform its reception, bar and lounge areas, enhancing its offering for guests. Situated next to the city’s integrated bus and rail terminal, the Hull Paragon Exchange, the hotel is a 15-minute walk from the cobbled streets of the Old Town and has good links for business travellers in the city.

North Star Sanctum, East Riding of Yorkshire

Inspired by exotic locations around the globe, North Star Sanctum is a collection of boutique five-star lodges in the rural surroundings of East Riding of Yorkshire. The six lavish self-catering lodges allow visitors to immerse themselves in elements of Morocco, India, Bali and Africa, and each includes log burners and hot tubs to accompany the stylish interiors. With one or two bedrooms, guests can opt to stay in The Fez, The Raj, The Lotus, The Ashram, The Kasbah or Madagascar.

Victorian House Hotel, Lake District

Opening in February

From the team behind London’s Georgian House Hotel in Pimlico, the Victorian House Hotel promises to bring luxury to the heart of the Lake District. With 19 spacious bedrooms, including a mix of twin and double rooms, as well as several suites, the hotel in Grasmere will mix Victorian architecture with an array of contemporary features from interior designer Laura Fulmine, to create a welcoming and informal environment. Four Stargazer rooms will also feature telescopes and dual aspect hip-to-ceiling windows, providing exceptional views of the night sky. A number of the downstairs rooms will be dog-friendly, while indoor tee-pee beds are just one of the playful optional additions for kids, making the accommodation even more family-friendly. Those seeking an alternative taste of luxury can opt for the opulent Shepherd’s Hut, which comes complete with grand French doors, wood burning stove and a lavish private bathroom. The hotel will also feature a boot room and extensive bike facilities, essential for those wanting to explore the Lake District’s striking scenery. B&B rates start from £150 per night.

The Vines, Rochester

Opening dates to be confirmed

Set in the heart of Rochester, Kent, The Vines occupies the lovingly restored Old Archdeaconry, a Grade II-listed building dating back to the 17th century. Housing 14 suites, each accented with lavish hand-picked furnishings, this luxury boutique venue in the Historic Rochester Conservation Area is set to open as a hotel and restaurant in the near future. Rates for the hotel are yet to be released.

Travelodge Sittingbourne 

Opening on 17 February 2020

Travelodge Sittingbourne is a new hotel forming part of a recently completed multi-million pound leisure complex in Kent. Located close to Sittingbourne's business parks and just a short walk from Sittingbourne train station, it’s tailor-made for business trips and weekend breaks in the area. Offering double, double accessible twin and family rooms, each includes a TV with Freeview, tea and coffee making facilities and comfortable beds. For those looking to venture further afield, there are great transport links to Canterbury and Rochester, while the hotel’s proximity to the Kent Downs, a recognised Area of Natural Beauty, make it a favourite location for ramblers and visitors keen to get back to nature too. Rates per night are to be confirmed.

Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool

Opening in the spring

The expansion of Liverpool’s iconic Hope Street Hotel is set for completion in the spring, encompassing the Grade II-listed former Royal School for the Blind. In addition to 62 new rooms, including 15 suites, the extension features a spa with an indoor pool, the city’s first hotel cinema, a gym and an events space with two terraces providing mesmerising views over Liverpool’s skyline. Simplistic design, pine beams and vast oak flooring are among the main features of the new development, designed to enhance the hotel’s existing public spaces. Rates at the hotel start from £78.20 per night with advance room rate only.

Travelodge Maldon 

Opening on 20 April 2020

Situated next to the Blackwater Estuary, the new Travelodge Maldon will offer unbeatable access to leisure activities in the area, including sailing, hiking and birdwatching. With excellent transport links and chargeable parking, the hotel is well suited to both business and leisure travellers, while king size Travelodge Dreamer™ Beds and en-suite bathrooms as standard in double and twin rooms make for a stay that’s as comfortable as it is enjoyable. Rates for the hotel are yet to be released.

Manor Farm Glamping, Bursledon

Opening in May

Located on the banks of the River Hamble at Bursledon, a short drive from Southampton in Hampshire, Manor Farm will offer chic glamping experiences throughout the summer. From May to September, 15 boutique bell tents will provide boutique luxury for families in a spectacular setting, complete with shower and bathroom cabins, fire pits and a wood-fired hot tub. Combining nature with some of the latest mod-cons, the tents are located only 30 minutes from Peppa Pig World and Marwell Zoo by car, and are ideally located for exploring what the south coast has to offer. Guests can choose to stay in one of ten fully-waterproofed canvas rooms, allowing them to get close to nature. A further five Canvas Cottage Suites include a number of additional luxurious furnishings, outdoor miniature kitchens and space to sleep up to eight people.

Travelodge Portsmouth City Centre

Opening on 6 June 2020

Travelodge Portsmouth City Centre is a brand new TravelodgePLUS hotel. Delivering a greater level of comfort and style than standard Travelodges, new features include blackout curtains, a Samsung Freeview TV and modern en-suite bathrooms. Located in the heart of Portsmouth, the hotel is also ideally located for exploring the city and the nearby area. Rates to be confirmed.
