Illuminating York, York
This annual festival lights up one of the UK’s most beautiful cities, transforming its historic buildings into stunning works of art. A range of artists use light to let you experience the city in a completely different way. You can take in huge spectacles like the illumination of the National Railway Museum, or follow the bunny lamp trail across the city.
In 2016 the event runs 26-29 October.
The Festival of Light, Longleat, Wiltshire
As darkness falls on Longleat House, look out for the striking lanterns that light up the grounds. From silk elephants to porcelain giraffes, these giant lanterns bring to life the history of Longleat as one of the best places to spot exotic creatures from around the world.
In 2016 it’s the 50th anniversary of the safari park, so from 11 November to the 2nd January, expect an extra special show with Europe’s largest display of Chinese lanterns and brand new Beatrix Potter scenes.

This year the event runs 23 November-2 January 2017.
