7 moments in London to capture on Instagram

Sunday 15 May 2016

As a passionate photographer, Bethany Looi loves to share travel photos on Instagram so her friends and family can follow her journey. On her last trip to London, there was so much to see and so much to share. Between the architecture, food, landscapes and beautiful colors everywhere, there was no shortage of amazing moments. Here are 7 of Bethany's most Instagrammable #OMGB moments in London.

1. Food Galore

Borough Market is a foodie’s dream. To sample the best of what the market offers, take a food tour with Secret Food Tours. On their Traditional British experience, you’ll get a taste of Britain (fish and chips, anyone?) along with a history lesson of the London Bridge area surrounding the market. Explore the market on your own to taste free samples and mix with local Londoners during their lunch hour at the vibrant market.

2. London from Above

It’s easy to see why The View from the Shard is frequently listed as a must-see when visiting London. As London’s highest viewing platform, The View from the Shard offers the picture perfect view for your next ‘gram. On a clear day, see London’s icons: The Thames River, London Bridge, The London Eye and more. Hazier days offer a beautiful atmosphere too. Take your shot but be sure to put down your camera and enjoy the view (and maybe a cocktail too).

    3. Afternoon Tea Time

Is there anything more British than afternoon tea? This ritual, between the hours of 12 and 6 pm is when tea, mini sandwiches, scones and beautiful pastries are enjoyed with friends and colleagues. With delicious food on a three-tiered tray and a backdrop of modern furniture in a Victorian townhouse setting, capture a drool worthy photo during afternoon tea at The Kensington.

        4. Royal Architecture

Immerse yourself in royal history and architecture at Kensington Palace. You’ll have no problem finding photogenic scenes here. You just might have trouble deciding what photo to share on your feed. Be sure to see the Golden Gates, gardens, statue of Queen Victoria and the King’s staircase inside the palace. Arrive early in the day to avoid the crowds and feel like the palace is all yours.

          5. Iconic Red Phone Booths

Nothing shouts London more than these iconic phone booths. You won’t miss seeing a red booth around the city, but it’s worth capturing one around the historic neighborhood of Bloomsbury. When you’re not taking photos, enjoy a stroll around the neighborhood’s garden squares and greenery. If you’re not staying in the area, board a hop on hop off bus to get around.

          6. Museum Hopping

You can’t leave London without visiting one of its many museums! Many are free to enter and each one is an amazing place to capture Instagrammable #OMGB moments. You’ll be wowed by the British Museum’s Great Court and the Natural History Museum’s Hintze Hall. My favorite? The V&A Museum’s Gamble Room. This room, adorned with beautiful ceramic tiles and stained glass windows, is one of three period rooms that house the museum’s café.

            7. Architectural Wonders

There’s no shortage of architectural wonders in London. You’ll recognize the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. However, with the help of a guide from smallcarBIGCITY, you’ll get to see other amazing buildings that are off the beaten path. Hop on board one of their classic Mini Coopers and go in search of Instagrammable architecture throughout London. My favorite spot was Leadenhall Market, a Victorian beauty where you can enjoy some of London’s best bites while taking in the gorgeous architecture.

Pro tip! If nighttime photography is your thing, check out See London By Night’s bus tour which stops at several of London’s famous landmarks, all after the sun sets! For more great photography of amazing moments in Britain, be sure to follow Love Great Britain on Instagram!
