Getting here

Edinburgh has a sophisticated transport and communications network linking it to the rest of Europe and the UK by air, road, and rail, making getting here easy for delegates.

Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest, serving 155 destinations worldwide. There are frequent direct flights from main international hubs including Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris, Geneva and Frankfurt, as well as direct long-haul services from the USA, Canada, China and the Middle East. In addition, there’s an average of 50 flights daily between Edinburgh and London.

For delegates travelling to Edinburgh by rail, there are two city centre train stations - Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Haymarket. Both are linked to all major cities and airports in Britain, with a high-speed link from London in just over four hours.

Edinburgh is connected to England via the M6 motorway and A1 (M) road. London to Edinburgh by car takes around seven hours.

It is Edinburgh’s ambition to be the Data Capital of Europe by 2030. Working together to deliver this 10-year programme are the University of Edinburgh and Heriott-Watt University, whose experts collaborate with industrial partners on data-based projects in the public, private and third sectors.

This Data-Driven Innovation initiative is part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal. Five data-driven innovation ‘hubs’ have been created, housing expertise and facilities to help 10 industrial sectors become more innovative through data.

The University of Edinburgh hosts the Bayes Centre, Edinburgh Futures Institute, Easter Bush campus, and Usher Institute for Population Health Sciences and Informatics. A National Robotarium, a further collaboration between Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh, is due to open in 2022.
