1. It’s home to the Endresz family
Laci Endresz has circus running through his blood. The sixth generation of his circus family, Laci has been at the helm since 1991. His two sons Laci Jr and Tom are the resident clowns, Mooky and Mr Boo who perform alongside some of the best circus talent from around the world every season.
2. It can hold up to 42,000 gallons of water
The ring floor lowers to create an onstage lake for an elaborate water finale at the end of every show in summer, just like it did a hundred years ago but they use fresh treated water now, unlike when it used to be pumped straight from the sea!
3. It’s been entertaining folk since 1894
Enticing guests through its doors since May 1894, the Blackpool Tower Circus hasn’t missed a season yet, making it the longest serving circus in the UK. The present interior of the circus was created by famous theatre designer, Frank Matcham, and was completed in 1900.
4. It will host extra special events this summer for Circus250
Blackpool is one of six towns across the UK that will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the first ever circus. Watch out for special events during the summer being hosted at the circus and various other locations in Blackpool.
5. It’s part of a troupe of attractions located in the iconic Blackpool Tower
Located at the base of the tower between four legs, the circus is just one of five attractions that make up this iconic bastion of entertainment. Others include The Blackpool Eye, The Blackpool Dungeons and The Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
