Scotland is known for many things – deep-fried mars bars and kilts to name a few – but one of their greatest creations in Scotch. Whisky tasting experiences can be found in all corners of the country, but creating your own special blend is pretty rare; that’s where Smoke Stack owner, Richard, comes in.

Hosting regular whisky-making classes at his Edinburgh-based restaurant, Richard introduces fellow whisky lovers to the world of Scotch Malt Whisky. You’ll get to taste a few different varieties – one from each of the country’s whisky regions – before using your new-found knowledge to make your own 50ml bottle (with personalised label) in his whisky lab. Round off your experience with a cup of coffee and handmade Scottish choccies.
Potter fans will relish this free tour that uncovers some of the magical locations in Edinburgh that inspired the books or were used in the films. See the café where JK Rowling brought Harry to life, or the filming location of Voldemort’s burial site. Booking isn’t required either – just turn up on time with your wands at the ready!
Packed with illusions, tricks and hands-on exhibits, Edinburgh’s oldest visitor attraction (first founded over 150 years ago) could easily be compared to an Aladdin’s cave. Found at the top of the historic Royal Mile, there are over 100 experiences across five floors, featuring everything from mirror mazes to holograms.
Budding coffee connoisseurs, your time is now. Edinburgh’s Brew Lab, renowned for its speciality coffee and artisanal sweet treats, offer masterclasses for home-coffee enthusiasts. In their training lab you'll learn how to make barista-quality brews, how to properly texture milk and pour the perfect latte.
