Know Before You Go: Guidance for travel in Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Swing by the Laing Art Gallery for one of their free talks (held every Saturday) to learn more about the paintings in the permanent collection and discuss your insights with fellow art lovers.
Add some Victorian flair to your day by taking a walk though Saltwell Park and Tower. Located in the heart of Gateshead, the park encompasses 55 acres of landscapes, woodland and ornamental gardens, as well as public sports facilities, a refreshment house, a lake, play areas, bowling greens, an animal house, an education centre and a maze.
Burn off some calories or buff-up your muscles at the Quayside Outdoor Gym. Take a turn at each of various fitness machines that line the banks of the Tyne, and cap off your workout with a jog along the nearby running path.
Play a heated game of Frisbee at Leazes Park, the oldest park in Tyneside. The park underwent a £3.7 million refurbishment in 2001 and now includes tennis courts, a bowling green and a beautiful fish-stocked lake.
Clear your mind (and strengthen your abs) at Sahaja Yoga Meditation. Though there’s usually a fee to participate, all classes are free on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 7.00pm until 8.30pm.
Get a jumpstart on your marathon training and walk across all seven bridges. Or, if that seems a bit too intense, walk along the paved path by the Tyne and bask in their architectural glory.
