The demand for glamping holidays and staying in unique accommodation has grown at a rapid pace over the past few years. More and more people are looking for alternative places to stay during their holidays. British cities offer a wide range of different types of accommodation. Whether located directly in the city centre or outside of the hustle and bustle of the cities, there is something for all tastes.

 

Glamping spots

Jacks Alt-Stays, Millport, Scotland

From mid-July

Located on the Isle of Cumbrae within easy reach of Glasgow, visitors can combine a city trip with an unforgettable immersive island escape at Jack’s Alt-Stays Eco Cabins. The cabins made out of local and sustainable resources are powered by renewable energy, and trees are planted for every booking made. Every cabin has its own theme and story and some come even with a wood-fired hot tub.

Retro Rocket at Brooks Guesthouse, Bristol, England

Brooks Guest House Bristol offers quirky accommodation with a view. Their rooftop features four airstream style caravans bookable for two to four people. Guests can glamp above the roofs of Bristol, right in the heart of Bristol’s old town. Each caravan has its own bathroom with a shower. Brooks Guest House is perfectly located to explore everything Bristol has to offer.

Under the Oak, Caerphilly, Wales

Situated an hour away from Cardiff by public transport, the camping site ‘Under the Oak’ takes glamping to a whole new level of luxury. Guests can sleep in one of their five safari tents or a restored railway wagon surrounded by nature. The site is located next to the traditional family farm and has a beautiful pond. Relaxation is guaranteed in the private hot tub with great views of the South Wales hills.

The ZSL London Zoo Lodges, Regent’s Park, London, England

Guests can stay overnight at ZSL London Zoo in one of their safari lodges located in the ‘Land of Lions exhibit’. The small oasis in the heart of London is a great opportunity to escape the city without actually leaving it. No alarm is needed in the mornings as guests wake up to the sounds of roaring lions, singing gibbons, honking flamingos and the neighbouring native wildlife.

Towed Town Camping, Bristol 

A quirky alternative to a hotel room is provided by Towed Town Camping. They offer indoor glamping set in a repurposed warehouse not far from Bristol City Centre. Guests can sleep in revamped vintage caravans at an affordable price. The communal area has a pool table, an honesty bar and boardgames to share. The perfect place to reconnect with loved ones while exploring Bristol.

 

On or at the water

The Liverpool Boat, Liverpool, England

Moored at The Liverpool Yacht Club and Marina, ‘The Liverpool Boat’ is a canal boat located in the heart of Liverpool’s bustling historical waterfront. The boat sleeps up to six people with two bedrooms and a pull-out bed in the open plan living room. The boat has two outdoor areas to watch the ducks swimming past on sunny days.

Titanic-themed Albert Dock Boat Hotel, Liverpool, England

The Albert Dock Boat Hotel is located in the Liverpool Marina with an on-site bar and grill. The main Liverpool attractions are located within walking distance of the hotel. The three-bedroom apartment boat has been designed to resemble the Titanic with memorabilia showing the history of the Titanic and scenes from the film.

The Boathouse at Dundas Castle, Edinburgh Scotland 

At the Boat House at Dundas Castle, visitors can escape from everyday life on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The breath-taking views of the loch on which the self-catering cottage is located on can be enjoyed from the veranda. The cottage is the perfect place to relax and unwind surrounded by nature.

St Christopher’s Inn Village is meeting the needs of the 21st century traveller with the Britain’s first capsule hostel. Located on the doorstep of some of the city’s most famous attractions, such as the food market Borough Market, the village offer’s Japanese-inspired capsule beds. And for those who need a bit more space they offer dorm beds and private rooms.
