Meet me at St Pancras International

Arriving at St Pancras International itself is already a treat for the eyes, you could almost call it a highlight in London. When arriving you`re not alone, lots of travelers with suitcases to start their journey to a next destination or to visit London. The train station has a beautiful construction with the roof being the main eye catcher. The graceful curves of the arches with light pouring through, giving it an open feeling and not the usual dark atmosphere you get when at a train station.

Also the nine-meter sculpture 'The Meeting Place’ beneath the clock touched me. It`s a statue built by British artist, Paul Day. When reading some more about the artist, I discovered he got the idea to create this sculpture of a kissing couple after remembering the film 'Love Actually'. This is what he says: "At the airport scene, when you get all the characters together and suddenly the doors open and out come the people that have been away and you get all sorts of meetings and people being reunited. I think that is an interesting slice of life and in a way the relief around the base has to be a rich tapestry about people getting together again after being apart. All separation involves a suspended moment when one wonders is this forever?"* Which makes this statue have even more meaningful, in my opinion.

Another sculpture worth seeing is the one of Sir John Betjeman, who was honored with a statue because he helped save St Pancras station from demolition in the 1960s.

While you`re waiting at the station, satisfies your hunger at the many eateries or have a drink. Maybe at Europe`s longest Champagne bar? Because every important London Landmark needs a unique feature, at over 90 meters no other bar comes close! *: Found the italic information in this article.   All images are copyrighted: Isabelle`s Travel Guide.
