2. Speke Hall

Visit a historic Tudor mansion for a taste of life in Britain’s colourful past. The rooms are full of beautiful art and antiques, not to mention curiosities like a priest’s hole and thunderbox toilet. It’s particularly atmospheric around Christmas time, and hosts various events and exhibitions all year round.


3. Formby Pinewoods

The woods and coast around Formby are great for walks, from nature trails to see the rare red squirrel to strolls that start in the forest and end in sandy dunes beside the sea. Formby is under an hour from Liverpool by car and ideal for families.


4. Quarry Bank Mill

Discover one of Britain’s great industrial heritage sites at Quarry Bank Mill, learn about the industrial revolution in this region and see how an industrial community lived. The mill is still operational, so you can relive what life was like here for a worker among the clattering of the machines!


5. Erddig

The 1,200 acre estate of Erddig is ideal for a day out from Liverpool. Explore the collection of artworks and the rooms of the house to get a sense of what life was like above and below stairs, then unwind in the gardens or explore further afield in the surrounding parkland.


6. Wirral Country Park

Look over the Dee Estuary from the cliffs of Wirral Country Park, or look out for the many species of bird and butterfly that live here. Wirral Country Park is ideal for a walk and to get some space and a bit of fresh air.
