Coasteering on the Pembrokeshire Coast

Tuesday 17 November 2015

If you're anything like me, going and seeing things isn't enough. You want to actually get in there and do things, not just take a photograph and leave. While this isn't always possible, in the case of the Pembrokeshire Coast it's spectacularly possible, thanks to coasteering (and an assortment of other active sports). Coasteering is a mixed discipline that includes swimming, rock climbing, and of course, jumping from impressive heights into the sea. Like this: Coasteering 1 Essentially, it's exploring coastal regions in a fully hands-on, get-your-feet-and-everything-else-wet way. And, of course, it's extremely fun. We found that it was a fantastic way to not only experience the beauty of the Pembrokeshire coast, but to really get hands-on with the terrain! There's also nothing more refreshing than jumping in the sea. Pembrokeshire 074 600 As well as the climbing and jumping, the exploring side of things is really fun too. We swam into a fantastic sea cave at low tide with a tiny shingle beach at its far end. Our guide, Rob, told us that this would be where seals would come to give birth to their young, while the male seal would patrol at the mouth of the cave to ward off any threats. abermawr-beach 600 Altogether, we learned about the area, the landscapes, the wildlife we encountered and had some great fun doing it. Coasteering 2 Coasteering is perfect for families and people of all ages. It helps to be a confident swimmer, but this is not vital as you're wearing a buoyancy aid at all times. You're not forced to jump off or climb anything you're not comfortable with, and you can take it as easy, or as extreme as you like. Coasteering 4 We went coasteering with Preseli Venture, who are a short car journey from St Davids. But you'll find all kinds of places to do it on the VisitWales website. What are you waiting for?
