Windemere, Lake District, England
The world as we know it, has been at a halt for a while now.
A fresh year for new beginnings, new memories and of course… travel... with friends, family and sometimes on our own. We often term travel as an ‘escape’ from our routines, only to come back to them. Travelling or ‘getting away’ for me is not an escape from the routine, but an escape from myself. It helps me experience something new and exciting in my life. I think it enriches me because it expands my mind.
Having worked in VisitBritain for many years now, I am still to escape to the unexpected side of Britain. Scrolling through my photo album recently, I re-lived some of the best moments I have experienced so far, in the UK.
A couple of hours drive from Manchester in North West England is the Lake District, also known as The Lakes.

If the World of Beatrix Potter and Dove Cottage (William Wordsworth’s former home) are for the kids, the quaint little cottages lining the streets of Bowness-On-Windermere and Keswick with their awe-inspiring scenery on a cruise are a dream coming to life in Windermere and Ullswater.
Maska and Kajika – a pair of wolves with whom I had the exhilarating experience of hiking for an hour is simply beautiful and unique.

One is never far from home in Britain when it comes to food. True to that is the culinary delight at Gilpin Spice, an Indo-British restaurant run by Pune-born Michelin Star Chef, Hrishikesh Desai who creates a brilliant fusion of Indian recipes using British techniques and ingredients. A must visit!
It has been a tough 2020 for all of us. With the advent of a brand new year comes new hope, new aspirations and new inspirations…
Through this blog, I wish all my friends, colleagues, partners and their families a great year with safe travels and togetherness.
Till we all meet again in the non-virtual world... imagine all the places you’ve dreamt of and the stories you will share! #DayDreamwithVB :)
