From themed exhibitions to long awaited reopenings, the Summer of 2022 is a highly anticipated heaven for taste buds everywhere. Across Britain, city streets and cultural centres will hold host to a variety of food experiences, with cuisines, chefs and produce from around the world, and showcasing the best of the region.
Here is a round up of some of the most exiting foodie festivals, events, and big new openings for summer 2022…
21 May – 18 September 2022
Celebrate all things food and how it affects the planet at Kew this summer with their variety of immersive installations, a new trail garden, talks, films, and after-hours events. Food Forever will invite you to step into the future of food, discovering how combating climate change and biodiversity loss can secure a sustainable future for food. There will also be four renowned chefs in response to our Food Forever programme, each creating a menu for the Pavilion Bar and Grill in collaboration with CH&Co Executive Chef Brwa Ahmad.
2 – 5 June 2022
A brand-new food festival confirming Liverpool’s status as the UK’s host city for Bordeaux Wine Festival in 2022, redefining ‘street food’ as three of the city’s foodie become immersive food experiences with takeovers by local restauranteurs and producers, cookery demonstrations, food inspired cultural events and venues offering special festival menus. The festival is free to attend with ticketed experiences available for wine tasting. Tickets will be on sale soon.
Open now – end of 2022
Located a stone’s throw from Exmouth Market, Double Dragon is the latest pop-up concept from Scott Hallsworth, former head chef of Michelin-starred restaurant, Nobu in London. Double Dragon will be similar to Japanese Izakayas – bars that serve a wide variety of Japanese dishes with plenty of dishes to share. Music and drinks play a big part in the experience, and it will be open for six months.
2 – 5 June
Returning to Blenheim Palace for its 8th year, the event will be full of local and national stallholders with artisan treats, homemade delights, craft beers, cocktails and mocktails. In the festival kitchen learn from the best with Gennaro Contaldo’s pasta demonstration to baking with Bake Off’s Karen Wright.
3 – 4 June
The popular and free to enter street festival is back with a line-up of live music, DJ’s and some of London’s finest food and drink vendors. There will be over 30 street vendors at the Palace’s south Terrace, ranging from Venezuelan street food at Guasa to plant-based classics with The Greedy Vegan. To wash it all down, there will be local craft beer from the likes of Five Points, London Brewing, Redemption, Tiny Rebel and more.
10 – 12 June
Kantina brings top guest chefs, restaurants and bars to the already vibrant foodie scene at Depot Mayfield. The weekend festival will include Michelin-starred chef Tom Brown, renowned South-East Asian cuisine creator Pippa Middlehurst, and a supper club presented by Luke French, head chef and owner of Sheffield’s JÖRO.
Taste of London
15 – 19 June 2022
Discover a tantalising selection of London’s top restaurants at the Taste of London festival in Regent’s Park. Taste rounds up the hottest London restaurants, hunts down the future food heroes, and brings together chefs who are about to launch their next big thing. All to be celebrated and enjoyed in London’s Regent’s Park in the summer of 2022.
17-19 June Bath and 24-26 June Dulwich
The unique pub festival taking some of the best pubs on tour across the country. Hosted by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, the traditional English pub experience is ramped up with live music, craft beers and 150 dishes from 39 award-winning restaurants across Britain.
22 – 31 July
Scotland’s largest free food and drink festival, the event will showcase the flavours of the country alongside a whole host of chef demonstrations and workshops. Try international street food from poke bowls to fiery chili con carne, or local produce including the nation’s iconic tipple, Scotch Whisky.
16 – 17 July 2022
The National Geographic Traveller food festival will be back in London for the first time since 2019. Hosted at London’s Business Design centre, the weekend will be headed up by British chefs, the MasterChef Champion Ping, as well as Ukrainian chef Olia Hercules. Explore their cuisines, watch kitchen demonstrations, and visit the speakers’ corner for chances to chat to the renowned food writers and chefs.
12 – 14 August 2022
After debuting in 2019, the London Dessert Festival is back in Islington with a selection of 10 inspiration pavilions. Each immersive pavilion has a uniquely tantalisingly, tasty profile. From the Pink Marmalade Gin Gatsby Lounge to the Multi-Sensory Dessert Laboratory. Plus, a Sundae School layered with tips & inspiration. Tickets range from £22.50 - £57.50 and are available here. Under 14s go free (excluding VIP evening).
