Sheffield United Football Club

Formed in 1889 and nicknamed the Blades in recognition of Sheffield’s history of steel production, Sheffield United have returned to the Premier League after a 12-year absence.

The club has played its home games at Bramall Lane in the centre of the city since its formation, and the stadium is the oldest major league ground the world, having first hosted a game in the 1860s. It also hosted the world’s first floodlit football match back in 1978!

Playing in red and white striped shirts, Sheffield United has a fierce rivalry with city neighbours Sheffield Wednesday, with whom they contest the ‘Steel City derby’.
