Britain has many Christmas markets for the festive season and they range from traditional to internationally contemporary. To help with your 2017 Christmas itinerary ideas, we’ve picked out the top 10 Christmas markets for groups from our Britain selection.

1. Christmas in Bath

Among many of the Bath’s charms to see over the festive period is the Christmas market, which features over 170 wooden chalets that line the historic streets surrounding the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey. As the market is located in the centre of the town, it’s easy to visit nearby attractions and restaurants and is an ideal activity for large groups.  

For an added Christmas experience, see the Shopper’s carols at Bath Abbey. The informal 20 minute service is an ideal break from the Christmas market bustle, and is the perfect opportunity to take in the beautiful surroundings of the abbey which is located next to the market.

During the Christmas market period, coaches can drop off at the Riverside Coach Park to then park at Weston Island. This must be booked beforehand and a permit paid for.

2. Christmas in Lincoln

Lincoln Christmas Market grows in popularity and in size year-on-year, and is nestled around the city’s medieval Cathedral Quarter and within the atmospheric castle grounds. With over 250 stalls providing a range of festive produce, seasonal gifts, trinkets, clothing, and delicious seasonal food, there’s plenty on offer, as well as live entertainment and a fayre. As Lincoln is a small city, most restaurants, attractions and shops are within walking distance.

Just a short walk from the High Street is the Corn Exchange which is home to the outdoor Lincoln Ice Rink which runs every Christmas and is ideal for large groups. Booking is advised for the ice rink to guarantee a space and contact to book

3. Christmas in Winchester

Formerly known as England's capital city, the ancient city of Winchester can be found in the South in Hampshire and is steeped in history. Winchester's Christmas market has been deemed one of the best in Europe for its unique location, where wooden chalets line the Cathedral's historic Close and surround a real open-air ice rink. Located near to the centre of Winchester, the market is in an ideal location for shopping, dining and exploring nearby art galleries.  

Enjoy a tour around the beautiful 15th Century Cathedral. Winchester Cathedral offers a meet and greet service for coaches, and can assist in arranging entry and tours to the Cathedral as well as refreshments. 4. Christmas in Belfast

The popular Belfast Christmas Market offers a traditional Continental atmosphere with the Market Place transforming the grounds of the Belfast City Hall. Opening from mid-November, the gates will be open every day for visitors to explore a number of stalls from across the world including Germany, Spain, France, Italy and a number of local British traders.

The market is adapted to assist with access for everyone and individuals with additional accessibility requirements are encouraged to attend the market during quieter times of the day

5. Christmas in Bristol

At Christmas Bristol city hosts three different Christmas markets: the local Christmas market, the German themed market, and the Harbourside Christmas Market set in the idyllic setting amongst cafés and boats, all of which are in walking distance of each other in the city centre.

25 miles outside of the city centre is the ever popular Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt Arboretum, where groups can enjoy an illuminated outdoor trail that weaves through the treetops, as well as the newly opened ‘treetop walkway’ which winds through the tree canopy.

6. Christmas in Manchester

Manchester’s Christmas Markets will return this year with nearly 350 stalls spanning across 10 distinctive market sites, featuring traders from the local northwest area of England to Europe. Each stall is housed in a handcrafted wooden chalet selling gifts, trinkets, Christmas wares and festive themed food. Groups can explore the Christmas markets which are spread over ten locations, with the main activity taking place in Albert Square.

The Winter Wonderland appears annually offering Christmas themed rides, shows, and food stalls. As the Winter Wonderland is ideally located next to the Intu Trafford Centre, groups can afterwards explore the huge range of high-street shops on offer.

7. Christmas in Glasgow

The Glasgow Christmas Market is situated at St Enoch Square with an international array of goods on offer. Visitors can sample Bavarian beers and mulled wine as well as hog roasts and French crepes. An additional Christmas market can be found at George Square featuring craft gifts as well as live entertainment and funfair rides.

8. Christmas in Cardiff

There's a great range of artwork on sale at this traditional market in the centre of Cardiff – from collage and photographic prints to posters and cards. Other stalls sell children's toys and outfits, glassware and ceramics, knitwear, jewellery and much more. Beyond the market there's a funfair and ice rink at Winter Wonderland.

9. Christmas in Nottingham

Located in Nottingham’s Old Market Square, the Winter Wonderland Christmas market has Victorian styled market cabins with an array of Christmas gifts, seasonal food and drink, crafts, and festive trinkets. You can also enjoy a drink at the winter bar whilst watching the live music from the traditional bandstand.

10. Christmas in Cornwall

At Christmas, the Cornwall comes alive with festive illuminations, and Christmas fares. Groups can explore Padstow Christmas Festival, Fowey Christmas Market, and the Christmas Fare in Bude, which are all within an hour drive from each other.

A 35-minute short drive from the town of Newquay is Eden Project, which has coach parking available on site. The Eden Project will be hosting a Christmas Festival, complete with enchanted rainforest, ice-rink, and workshops.
