Discover London through the eyes of two Barclays Premier League football players ahead of the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal this weekend! Chelsea player Cesar Azpilicueta and Arsenal midfielder Lukas Podolski go head to head and share their favourite locations in the English capital. Which attractions get your vote?
First up, Chelsea FC’s Cesar Azpilicueta:
London Eye - This is the best way I have seen the whole city in one go. On a clear and sunny day you can see for miles around, and you can really see how beautiful London is. I know the Shard is even higher and that is something I would like to try also. Stamford Bridge - I am a little bit biased but there is no way you can go to London without coming to Stamford Bridge. At least if you like football, anyway. People tell me Chelsea is the most central club into the city, so it is easy to get to, and of course, we are the best team! Regent Street shopping - There are really good shops all over London, but some of my favourites are on Regent Street and in the nearby area. Oxford Street is close, and very busy, but Regent Street is a little more relaxed and takes you to Piccadilly Circus, an interesting place with all the lights. Regents Park - London has some of the nicest parks. It is great to be able to walk around in the fresh air, and Regents Park has lots of squirrels always running around you. There is also London Zoo, which can keep you busy for a whole day.
Hyde Park - I think Hyde Park is even bigger than Regents Park, and has lots of attractive features like the Serpentine lake and many memorials. There are always people jogging, cycling or even riding horses, and you sometimes see military in traditional British dress like at Buckingham Palace. Even though it is in the middle of a busy city, it feels like you are a long way away!
Next, it’s Arsenal player Lukas Podolski’s picks:
Hampstead Heath - I love going to the park when I have some free time and Hampstead Heath in North London has to be my favourite. The green space is a great place to unwind.
London Eye and Up at the O2 - If you fancy an adventure and have a head for heights, take a ride on the London Eye or scale the O2 arena in Greenwich James Bond style with Up at the O2. Westfield - I’m a sucker for good clothes and London’s Westfield Shopping Centres at Stratford and Shepherd’s Bush plus plenty of great shopping areas in central London mean I’m spoilt for choice. Black Cab Tour - As I’m fairly new to living in London, one of the best and quickest ways to take in some of the city’s most famous sights is with a Black Cab Tour. It’s really fun!
