Terms and Conditions for Welcome to England US Contest


  1. The Sponsor of this Contest is the British Tourist Authority, a statutory body incorporated under the Development of Tourism Act 1969 with its office address at Sanctuary Buildings, 20 Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BT (“Sponsor”).


  1. The Contest is open to residents of the United States of America, excluding residents of Quebec in Canada and Utah in the United States of America, who are aged 18 years or over except employees of Sponsor or any partner/agency connected with this Contest, or family of staff working for any of these organisations. The Sponsor reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants and any entrants and/or Winner(s) will be automatically disqualified if found not to fully comply with the eligibility criteria for entering this Contest.


  1. The Contest is open for entry from 10.00 GMT on March 1, 2017 and the closing date for entries is 23.59 GMT on March 31, 2017. Any entries received after the closing date will not be accepted. The Sponsor does not accept any responsibility for online entries which are not received or delays in receiving or delivering online entries.


  1. There is one prize to be won.


  1. The Prize is a standard economy return flight and a Superbreak voucher to use on accommodation and an optional experience for a trip to England for two people.  

The Prize package will consist of:

  • Return economy flights from the nearest American Airline or partner (see here for full list) gateway to the winner’s home of residence to an airport in London or Manchester (winner’s choice). Subject to availability and flight connectivity (provided by the Promoter, to a maximum of £2000 (approx. $2491 USD).
  • A Superbreak voucher for £850 (approx. $1059) to be used on accommodation and optional experience bookings.

The Prize package does not include:

  • Cost of travel insurance
  • Visas (where required)
  • Travel to and from airport of departure
  • Transfers from the airport to the hotel in England
  • Spending money

Prize conditions

  • Airline seats are subject to availability.
  • Guest must be at least 18 years old.
  • The winner and their guest must travel together in both directions.
  • All elements of the prize package must be taken as part of the same trip.
  • Once tickets have been issued, they are only valid for flights, dates and times shown. No alternatives are available. Name changes to the flight seats once confirmed are not permitted.
  • If a flight or hotel booking is cancelled by the winner, no alternatives will be issued and for the avoidance of doubt, no compensation and/or refund will be provided.
  • The winner and their guest will require a passport valid for at least 6 months on date of travel.
  • The winner must inform the Sponsor of any wheelchair or any similar access needs.
  • The winner can book accommodation and an optional experience that is more than the £850 (approx. $1059) Superbreak voucher but any costs beyond the £850 (approx. $1059) value will be at the winner’s and accompanying guest’s own expense.
  • The winner is solely responsible for any additional charges incurred during their trip, including, without limitation, costs of meals, drinks, additional nights and services together with related taxes.
  • The Prize must be booked and taken between May 1, 2017 and November 30, 2017. The Winner must confirm preferred England destination (London or Manchester) and dates of travel between May 1, 2017 and November 30, 2017 within 2 weeks of accepting prize.
  • The winner is responsible for the behaviour of themselves and their guest whilst taking the Prize. The Sponsor reserves the right in its absolute discretion to exclude the winner and/or guest from participation in the Prize if any party fails to comply with the directions of the Sponsor or any companies associated with the Prize or the winner and/or guest act in a manner that is dangerous to themselves or to the public or is, in the opinion of the Sponsor, anti-social in any manner or which causes a disturbance or nuisance to others.
  • The Sponsor will advise the winner on how to obtain their prize and make their bookings once the winner has confirmed acceptance of the prize.
  • The winner must book accommodation with Superbreak in order to book an experience in England. .

The total value of the Prize is approximately £2850 inc VAT (Approx. $3,553.00 USD).


  1. To enter the Contest, entrants must go to www.visitbritain.com/AmericanWay and answer the following question: “What do you love about England”, in no more than 200 characters and complete all personal details and accept the Contest terms and conditions.


  1. The entries will be judged on the following criteria:


  • How enthusiastic and positive the answer is; and
  • How creative their answer is.


  1. The Sponsor will reject entries which, in the reasonable opinion of the Sponsor:
    • contains any content that is offensive or could reflect negatively on the name, reputation, or goodwill of the Sponsor or any brand partner;
    • includes trademarks, logos, or copyright material not owned by you or used without the rights owner's prior written permission (including famous names, company names, etc.);
    • defames, misrepresents, or insults other people or companies, including, but not limited to the Sponsor (including its partners); and
    • promotes any political agenda.


  1. Visit Britain will select ten (10) valid entries based on the criteria above within 3 working days of the end of the Contest at the Sponsor’s premises. These 10 valid entries will then be judged by PromoVeritas, the independent promotional verification service to select the winner. The judges may select reserve correct entries in case of an ineligible entrant.


  1. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of the Prize awarded.  


  1. The Winner will be notified by the Sponsor and/or Sponsor’s appointed prize fulfilment agency email using the email address (or where available, other contact information provided at the time of entry) of the Winner when entering the Contest 3 working days after judging. The Winner must reply to the notification email and confirm that they accept the Prize within 14 days and provide proof of ID and their full postal address. The judges cannot accept responsibility for late responses. In the event that the Winner fails to respond to the winner notification email and/or provide all requested prize fulfilment information within the required timeframe, the Winner shall forfeit their entitlement to the Prize and the Sponsor shall have the right to pick an alternative winner of the Prize.


  1. Entry to the Contest is limited to one entry per person.


  1. The Prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, non-changeable and no cash alternative is available in whole or in part. The Prize is subject to availability and the Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the whole or any part of the Prize for one of equal or greater value. All costs, incidentals and expenses which are not expressly included as part of the Prize shall be the Winner’s sole responsibility. Any costs, incidentals and expenses incurred by the Winner and accompanying guest, not specifically listed as included as part of the Prize shall be at the sole cost and expense of the Winner and accompanying guest.  


  1. The Sponsor reserves the right to terminate, amend or extend this Contest in the event of exceptional circumstances outside its control which affect its ability to operate the Contest. Where the Prize includes tickets for events and/or experiences organised and hosted by third parties, Winner and accompanying guests shall have to comply with any terms and conditions of such event organisers.    


  1. The Winner and accompanying guest, may be required to take part in any publicity associated with this Contest and agree to cooperate with any reasonable requests of the Sponsor. The Sponsor reserves the right to publish details of the Winner on its publicly available website or digital platforms.


  1. Bulk entries made from trade, consumer groups or third parties will not be accepted. Incomplete entries, entries submitted by or via third parties or syndicates, entries submitted by macros or other automated means, and entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these terms and conditions in full will be disqualified and will not be counted. If it becomes apparent that a participant is using a computer(s) to circumvent this condition by, for example, the use of ‘script’, ‘brute force’, masking their identity by manipulating IP addresses, using identities other than their own or any other automated means in order to increase that participant’s entries into the Promotion in a way that is not consistent with the spirit of the Promotion, that participant’s entries will be disqualified and any prize awarded will be void.


  1. By entering the Promotion, entrants give their permission for their entries to be used by the Sponsor without further compensation, over and above the award of the prize, for up to one year for promotion purposes. Copyright will remain with the entrant. However, by entering this Promotion, the entrant agrees to the Sponsor publishing these entries on their website and possible further use on their website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social media platforms. They also agree to other possible promotional use in media of the Sponsor’s choosing without any further payment, over and above the award of the prize, for up to one year but with appropriate credit given to the original entrant.


  1. If entrants complete the relevant boxes on the entry form, their details will be retained by the Sponsor and contacted by the Sponsor for survey purposes.  The Sponsor will store and process entrants’ details in accordance with its own privacy policies: http://www.visitbritain.com/en/Legal/ 


  1. The Sponsor cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss or injury suffered by any entrant entering the Promotion or as a result of accepting or participating in any prize. Nothing shall exclude the Sponsor’s liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.


  1. The rules of this Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with English Law and the English Courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to any disputes arising therefrom.
