Book now to secure a spot at Gravesend, Ebbsfleet, Leyton or Havering – all located just 15 minutes from the Olympic site! You could also try the Camp in London site, just 10 minutes from the Olympic Stadium, which offers luxury camping, pre-erected tents, big screens and nightly entertainment.
Many London Universities offer good-value rooms for rent during the summer holidays. University College, Goldsmiths, the London School of Economics and many more are all now taking bookings for 2012.
London has nearly 100 hostels to choose from with a range of prices, locations and levels of luxury. The Youth Hostelling Association (YHA) operates seven hostels in London and there are dozens of independent options across the city. Use a booking site like hostelbookers.com to find the best deals.
One of the best ways to save money on accommodation is to stay outside London. The UK is compact and very easy to travel around. That means that you could enjoy the historic grandeur of Oxford or the charms of Canterbury, Kent’s medieval gem built around its spectacular cathedral, and be just an hour or so away from all the action in London. That way, you’ll get to see more of Britain and save money on accommodation. Other great options around an hour by train from London include Brighton, the South Coast’s cool centre of shopping and nightlife and Cambridge, with its ancient university and jaw-dropping architecture. And don’t forget that several Olympic events are also taking place outside London. If you’re a sailing enthusiast, beat London accommodation prices and explore the rural county of Dorset where the Olympic Sailing events are being held. If you like your football, you could also stay in Glasgow, Coventry, Cardiff, Newcastle or Manchester – perfect places for a city break.
