When it comes to activities, you really are spoilt for choice here. Cairngorms is home to three of Scotland’s five ski centres, two dedicated watersports centres, fly fishing and stag stalking areas and 280km of footpaths covering every type of walking route imaginable, so the hardest decision you’ll have to make is what to do first.
While you’re in the highlands, why not indulge in something truly Scottish? As Scotland’s the home of golf, it’ll come as no surprise that Cairngorms has no fewer than 12 golf courses on offer, including Braemar, the highest 18-hole course in Britain at 1,200 feet above sea-level. For something with a truly Scottish flavour, take a trip to one of the many whisky distilleries in and around the Cairngorms National Park and sample a dram (or two!).
1. Explore the wild hills of the Cairngorms by foot – there are plenty of walking routes to choose from and something for all abilities.
2. Get up close and personal with the local wildlife as you accompany a local Keeper on a stag feeding trip (December to March).
3. Tee off at Ballater Golf Club and enjoy views of the River Dee and Lochnagar.
4. Sample the best local food and drink at the monthly Cairngorms Farmers’ Market.
5. Visit Blair Castle, home to the Atholl Highlanders, the last remaining private army in Europe.
