During academic holiday periods (summer holidays: May - August, Christmas holidays: December – January, Easter holidays: March or April) many university campus’ open up their dorm doors to travellers. Campus accommodation is usually the university’s halls of residence – where the students live during term-time. Halls of residence (or ‘halls’ as they’re known) are usually made up of a block of self-catering flats with a number of (usually single) en-suite bedrooms in each. With most campus accommodation, there’s usually a choice of bed and breakfast, half-board or self-catering accommodation available.
Campus accommodation prices vary depending on the location, time of year, length of stay and number of people. Please contact the campus directly for price enquiries.
Facilities may vary in each hall of residence, but generally the bedrooms are en-suite (usually with a shower), and there are TV, internet and telephone points (though TV’s, computers and telephones aren’t provided) in all rooms. Bed linen and towels aren’t provided. Where there are kitchens, these are usually fully fitted with a fridge, cooker, table and storage, and you may also find a TV with satellite or cable connection in the lounge or common room.
You’ll also benefit from the fact that most universities have an excellent range of services including shops, banks, laundries, bars, lounges, TV rooms and sports facilities. These are designed for students, so will be either on campus, or conveniently located in the surrounding area.
