Things to do near Manchester Airport

Currently mid-way through a £1 billion transformation programme, the international hub at Manchester Airport acts as a global gateway to the North of England. Situated around nine miles from central Manchester, the airport supports more than 50 airlines, including British Airways and easyJet, to serve around 200 destinations. With fantastic connectivity and top class facilities, it is ideally situated for exploring Greater Manchester, the Lake District, North Wales and beyond.

Your travel options

Regular train services linking Manchester Airport with Manchester Piccadilly Station provide the easiest route into the city centre, taking around 20 minutes. Coach and tram services also run into the city centre regularly from the airport’s main transport hub, although the train is the quickest option.

What you can do

While you can walk around the city centre, an extensive bus and tram network means you can explore further afield too. The Metrolink connects 90 stations across Greater Manchester and regular bus services serve local routes to all corners of the city, giving you easy access to the wealth of attractions that Manchester has to offer.

Home to an incredible 140,000 pieces of footballing memorabilia, of which more than 2,500 are displayed at any one time, the National Football Museum is a celebration of the beautiful game. It’s the world’s largest football museum and you can discover its interactive games and exhibits on a guided tour or explore its many floors at your own pace. Look out for the Jules Rimet trophy and for the football used in the famed 1966 World Cup Final.

Named after famous artist LS Lowry, The Lowry is a contemporary arts centre that is home to an array of performance spaces, bars, restaurants and shops.
