Now more than ever, being mindful of our impact on the environment is important. Hotels, B&Bs, lodges, and other accommodations all over Britain are prioritizing sustainability to make sure you can plan a memorable trip while also being conscious of your impact on the planet. Whether it’s an off-grid getaway in Wales, or a chic hotel in London, we’ve created a list of six sustainable spots that you can book for your next eco-friendly British holiday.

Heckfield Place, Hampshire

Located in the gorgeous county of Hampshire, Heckfield Place is a gloriously polished Georgian manor on over 400 acres of land that is not only beautiful on the outside, but also prioritizes the environment on the inside. Here, you will find plenty of initiatives that the luxury country home has implemented, committed to their approach to sustainability. Some steps the estate is taking to put the earth first include making sure 90% of their lamps use LEDs, maintaining their own borehole to harvest rain water, and continuing to grow their very own certified bio-dynamic farm.

The Zetter Hotel, London

Located in London, The Zetter is a perfect example of how a hotel can be both stylish and sustainable. Some of the eco-friendly highlights of the hotel include their own borehole beneath the building, the use of natural light and passive ventilation, and bathroom products that are in environmentally friendly packaging and do not contain chemicals like parabens, phthalates, or petrol-derived ingredients. Guests who forgo housekeeping can receive perks like a £10 voucher to spend on food and drink for each day they skip, helping the hotel reduce their consumption of power, water and cleaning chemicals.

The Scarlet, Cornwall

Check out this sleek and stylish cliff-top hotel located on the northern coast of Cornwall, featuring a slew of luxury property amenities including a deep relaxation room, sunbathing terrace, a cloister garden, and rooms with stunning panoramic view of the property. The Scarlet’s most exciting features are the ones you can’t see, such as its commitment to grey-water harvesting (using waste water from showers to flush toilets) and its roof constructed entirely from Sea Thrift (a local plant).

Eagle Brae, Scottish Highlands

Looking for a getaway into the Scottish Highlands? Look no further than the lavish Eagle Brae log cabin village. Not only is it a gorgeous place to relax, but it also offers an opportunity for a carbon neutral holiday. Eagle Brae has their own micro-hydro scheme that provides electricity and hot water to the cabins and their water is sourced from a natural, sustainable underground supply, treated on-site and gravity fed to the cabins.

The Victoria Inn, Norfolk

The Victoria Inn is a few minutes’ walk from the golden sands of Holkham beach and is a perfect place to discover the county’s windswept coastline, seaside towns and villages. The Victoria Inn joined Green Tourism in 2016, and is committed to alter, monitor and maintain practices in all areas of the business to be as environmentally and ethically responsible as possible. Their food is local and organically sourced, with waste collected by ReFood (producing green energy through anaerobic digestion). The Inn also runs on ‘green’ electricity (LED lighting/installation of a biomass boiler).

Crashpad Lodges at Yr Helfa, Snowdonia, North Wales

Located on the foothills of Snowdon, in North Wales, Crashpad Lodges is a historic Welsh farmhouse powered by its own renewable energy source with direct access to the mountain. The property is off-grid, meaning there is no access to main electricity. Instead, they are powered through solar panels, a wind turbine, and a water pump that also uses solar energy. The lodges are only fully accessible (to the door) by 4 x 4 vehicles to keep the disturbance of the land to a minimum and to respect the surrounding farm land and animals. You can enjoy the breath-taking scenery without having to worry about a poor impact on the environment.
