Going behind the scenes of the Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House dominates London’s Covent Garden. It was built in 1858, although there’s been a theatre on this site since the 1730s. Backstage tours cover the theatre’s colourful history and current productions – you might even catch The Royal Ballet in rehearsals. The Velvet, Gilt and Glamour Tour takes you into the heart of the auditorium and into the Royal Retiring Room, still used by royalty today. Tours of the Production Workshop, in Greater London, delve into the work behind the sets, scenery and costumes. Until early 2018, allow extra time for backstage tours as works are taking place to enhance the visitor experience for ROH’s audience and artists.
