Fountains Abbey

Tucked away in a scenic river valley just outside Ripon in North Yorkshire, Fountains Abbey is a World Heritage Site and a picture of medieval grandeur. Once a towering Cirstercian monastery, it's now one of the largest and best preserved ruins in England. There's much more than just an abbey here - on the same estate you'll find the soothing Georgian water gardens of Studley Royal. Surrounded by lush green landscapes you can have a picnic or take time to reflect at the tranquil moon ponds. Go for a stroll in the Studley Royal deer park and keep your eyes peeled for the 3 different type of deer on the property.

Fountains Abbey is about 4 hours from London by car and less than an hour away from York.
