A summer of royal things to do

Friday 22 July 2016

If you’re a lover of all things royal, there are plenty of amazing places you can visit every summer in Britain...

You can book tickets to visit Buckingham Palace, which opens for the summer season (usually July to October) each year. There are often special exhibitions, too.

While you’re there, enjoy the splendor of the State Rooms and take a tour of the palace’s gardens. If you haven’t had enough of a royal adventure, hop on a train and travel 30 minutes from London to reach Windsor and visit the castle where the Queen spends her weekends. In addition to seeing the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, you can take a tour of ancient Eton College, where Prince William and Harry went to school.

Believe it or not, there are still many royal sights to see! Scotland is incredibly easy to get to and its capital, Edinburgh, is where you can find the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Tour the gardens, abbey, and even enjoy afternoon tea in this Scottish royal residence. After a tour of the palace and an exploration of Edinburgh, take a trip to the beautiful seaside town of St. Andrews, just 90 minutes by train. Take in a round of golf and explore the University of St Andrews where a young Prince William met Kate, now the Duchess of Cambridge.

In Wales, the quiet town of Anglesey is a beautiful seaside destination that was home to William and Catherine shortly after their wedding. Finish up your royal adventure with a few viewings of ancient castles. Wales certainly isn’t short on them, and is known as the “Land of Castles” with no fewer than 641, the highest concentration per capita in the world.
