Vegetarian dining in Britain

Poco, Bristol

For tapas that uses every inch of the available ingredients, Poco in Bristol has you covered. Look no further than the Root to Fruit menu, full of sprouting colourful broccoli and spicy shallots, for tasty veggie and vegan nosh. Reclaimed timbers, recycled materials and natural stone make up the quirky interior and shine a light on the importance of sustainability for this Bristol-based eatery.

Food for Friends, Brighton

Brighton’s Food for Friends has specialised in vegetarian and vegan cuisine since 1981. Its ever-changing seasonal menu, featuring the likes of sweetcorn ‘ribs’ with tamarind BBQ sauce, or glazed aubergine and sweet chilli satay, means there’s always something new to discover.

Nook, Cardiff

In Cardiff, Nook has the backing of the Michelin Guide for its organic and biodynamic wines, all perfectly paired with Welsh-sourced specialities. The ingredients speak for themselves, with vegetarian dishes aplenty.

Gauthier Soho, London

In June 2021, London’s Gauthier Soho became 100 percent vegan, with chef Alexis Gauthier issuing a rallying cry for a more “progressive, compassionate” approach to fine dining. The result has left reviewers in raptures, celebrating Britain’s natural bounty in dishes such as black truffle risotto and sea quenelle – a salty-sweet ‘caviar’ made from kelp.
