This lockdown has lasted longer than anyone of us would have imagined, and with more free time on my hands, I’ve been reminiscing of the wonderful week I spent in the Lake District two summers ago.

This part of the world is a road tripper’s dream, with so many picturesque towns and quaint villages dotting the countryside. It’s hard to pick my favorite experience in the Lake District so I’ll pick my top 3:

walk with the wolves, lake district, england

Walking with the wolves: In the town of Ayside on a private 5-acre site, Dee and Daniel Ashman, directors at The Predator Experience give you an insight into Maska and Kajika, two hybrid wolves and partners in crime. Once they were a bit familiarized with my scent, I had the chance to walk them around. The most overwhelming moment was hearing them howl – and they have different types of howls for different occasions.

William wordsworth house, lake district

William Wordsworth’s home in Rydal Mount: This charming little town is home to a landmark country-home of one of England’s most loved poets. I recall reading Wordsworth’s poems in schools, and actually visiting the home and surroundings that inspired him to write his elegant prose was surreal. The words of the popular “Daffodils” from his collection of poems have so much more meaning when you gaze out of his window and take a walk in his well-manicured garden.

swimming in Lake windermere, lake district

Water sports on Lake Windermere: As an adventure sports enthusiast and a lover of all things aqua, how could I miss the opportunity to have a go at wakeboarding? I admit I need a few more lessons to master this sport, but I loved the adrenaline rush! Another top moment here was a chance to swim in the chilly lakes, or a wild swim in the lakes as it is often referred to.

There are so many more activities and experiences in the Lake District that blew me away and are apt for visitors in all age groups and this is what makes it one of the best destinations in the world for a family holiday.
