Top sport activities to do in Edinburgh

Scotland is where golf evolved and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews, an hour north of Edinburgh, was founded in 1754. Now the R&A, as it is known, is a governing body for golf throughout the world. Enjoy a round on the famous par-72 Old Course.

See if you can last out a training session with a British Military Fitness instructor. A typical session burns 640 calories and Holyrood Park in Edinburgh is a favoured location due to the 823ft- (251m)-high volcano, Arthur’s Seat, which is used for running up!

Rugby fan? Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, located in the west of the city, is the home of Scottish rugby. Its all-seater capacity is nearly 68,000, which makes it the largest stadium in Scotland and the 5th largest in the UK.

Melrose Cricket Club in the Scottish Borders, just over an hour’s drive by car south of Edinburgh, is a lovely spot to watch a game of cricket, and for a cosy pub/restaurant nearby try the Buccleugh Arms Hotel.

At Murrayfield, beside the rugby stadium, is also Scotland’s National Ice Sports Centre where you can have a whoosh around the ice rink.
