Castleton, Peak District

Nestled in the Hope Valley, the quaint streets of Castleton are ripe for exploring. Indeed, this Peak District village’s marketplace appeared in House of the Dragon. There’s plenty to see below ground, too – don’t miss the four showcaves open to the public. 

Caesar’s Camp, Surrey

Explore the remains of an Iron Age hillfort and look out for the area’s rare birds at Caesar’s Camp. This beauty spot served as the setting of the jousting tournament in the first episode of House of the Dragon.  

Hartland Peninsula, Devon 

Walk along the rugged clifftops of the Hartland Peninsula to see a wild side of Devon – and don’t forget to bring your binoculars. The area has been well used for filming over the years, ranging from Disney’s Treasure Island in 1950 to more recent hit House of the Dragon

Bourne Woods, Surrey  

Enjoy a stroll through hilly Bourne Woods, with its sandy soil. Look familiar? Since 1999, the woods have hosted lots of films, TV programmes, commercials and music videos including House of the Dragon

Dinorwig Quarry, Snowdonia (Eryri) 

North Wales’ industrial heritage is on proud display at the Padarn Country Park, a haven for adventure seekers. Nearby Dinorwig Quarry, once the world’s second-largest slate quarry, was used for Harrenhal Castle in House of the Dragon

Penmachno Roman Bridge, Snowdonia (Eryri) 

This elegant packhorse bridge actually dates back to the 17th century, unlike its name suggests! Crossing the River Machno in rural Snowdonia (Eryri), the bridge featured in House of the Dragon. 

Penmon Point, Anglesey 

A beautiful black-and-white lighthouse stands proudly over the pebbles of Penmon Point beach. This wild part of the Anglesey coast was used for House of the Dragon’s second series. 

Holywell Beach, Cornwall 

Sun-seekers will feel right at home at this wide, sandy bay, perfect for a family beach day. Holywell Bay doubles for Stepstones in House of the Dragon and can be spotted in episodes one and three of series one.  

Llanddwyn Beach, Anglesey 

Feel the sand between your toes at Anglesey’s gorgeous Llanddwyn Beach, which enjoys views across to Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park. The beach made an appearance in House of the Dragon series two.
