Wherever you look, north Wales is bursting with star power. Remember Colin Firth and Julie Walters in 2020’sThe Secret Garden? That was filmed right here in Conwy’s not-so-secret Bodnant Garden, famous worldwide for its laburnum arch. What about that epic opening scene in 2020’sWonder Woman 1984, where young Diana races across a roaring waterfall? Yup, that was north Wales’ Swallow Falls, too. And who can forget the Hollywood actors putting the spotlight on Wrexham? If Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s antics in Welcome to Wrexham (2022–) have inspired you, this is the itinerary for you.
Kick off in the home of the Red Dragons, before immersing yourself in Wales’ largest National Park, Snowdonia (Eryri) – no stranger to the screen itself, thanks to James Bond, Lara Croft and The Witcher. Follow in the Targaryens’ footsteps on the Isle of Anglesey, before some strolls – and perhaps even sunbathing – at the Llŷn Peninsula’s blockbuster beaches, as seen in The Last Kingdom (2010–2015). Bring your binoculars – and your sense of adventure.
Day 1
Wrexham and the Dee Valley
Wrexham: The small Welsh city that’s captured the attention of Hollywood – and now it’s rolling out the red carpet for you. Visit the top filming locations from Welcome to Wrexham (2022–), cheer on the boys at the STōK Cae Ras and toast their victory (here’s hoping) at the Turf pub. But it’s not all about football in these parts – get your blood pumping with sky-high canoeing at a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We hope you like heights…
Cracking canoeing at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
- Experience

This is no ordinary watersports trip: the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is one of the tallest navigable aqueducts in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by glorious countryside views. Are you brave enough to peek over the edge to the river 38 metres (126ft) below? The adventure is suitable for those of basic fitness level, and all gear is provided – you’ll just need a head for heights! If you’ve watched Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (2024), the aqueduct might look familiar... The Aardman Animations team were inspired by it for the film’s dramatic canal boat finale.
Catch a match at The Racecourse
- Experience
- 1-2 hours

Visit the football ground that’s at the heart of Welcome to Wrexham (2022–), the story of two unlikely Hollywood actors taking over a Welsh football club. Who knows, you might be lucky enough to share a pint with some other famous faces here too!

Enjoy a zoom with a view at Zip World Llechwedd or tee off at the world’s first adventure golf in a cave. There’s even an underground trampoline park here, Bounce Below.
