Where to find Poldark film locations in England

Friday 19 April 2024

We await with bated breath as the next Poldark series hits screens. And it’s not just the main character that gets our hearts throbbing, but that gorgeous Cornwall backdrop. Here’s where you can recreate your own love drama in this beautiful area of South West England…

Dreamy scenery

Porthcurno, Cornwall

Described by some as being a paradise, it's easy to see why the location manager picked Porthcurno for Nampara Cove. In episode 2, Demelza and Ross find themselves walking along Porthcurno in a dream sequence on a spectacular sunny day.

Mining country

Mining buildings at St Agnes Head, Cornwall

At St Agnes Head, iconic engine houses perch serenely on the clifftops, silent reminders of Cornwall's mining heritage. A natural location choice, it doubles as Nampara Valley in the TV show.

Mines, Cornwall

On the west Cornwall coast, Levant Mine plays the role of the fictional Tressiders Rolling Mill while Owles and Crowns near Botallack starred as Wheal Leisure.

Shipwrecks and smugglers

Gunnwalloe, Cornwall

Gunnwalloe on The Lizard relived its smuggling past when Aidan Turner and other cast members descended to film night-time shipwrecking scenes. In real life, this is a more sedate spot with an attractive sandy cove overlooked by the tiny church of St Wynwallow.

A beloved beach

Kynance Cove, Cornwall

With pure white sand, turquoise waters and serpentine rock-towers, Kynance Cove makes the perfect setting for Poldark's beloved Nampara. At low tide you can explore sea caves and rocky islands.

Ross’s swimming spot

Poldark filming in Porthgwarra cove

Once a thriving fishing cove, the beautiful Porthgwarra hosted the popular scene in series 1 where Ross takes a swim in the sea while watched from the clifftops by Demelza. The pilchard fishing and other scenes were also shot here. Stop in the Porthgwarra Cove Cafe (seasonal) which refuelled the cast and crew during filming.

The Poldark Home

Bodmin Moor is the largest of Cornwall’s designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and stars as the location of the Poldark cottage, Nampara. Cottage exterior scenes are shot here and some of the miners’ cottages too.

Dramatic Cliffs

The fishing port of Padstow offers dramatic cliff top views and served as the location for several cliff scenes. Scenes were shot outside Lellizzick, a working farm and for visitors, a bed & breakfast where guests can catch a glimpse of Camel Estuary and Tregirls Beach.
