Where to live the Bridget Jones lifestyle in Britain

Thursday 15 September 2016

Bridget is back for her third blockbuster film – Bridget Jones’s Baby – expect lots of laughs, love gone wrong, bottles of wine, and that typical Bridget style and recognisably British settings that we all know and love. Here’s our guide on how to live the Bridget lifestyle in Miss Jones’ Britain.

Where to live like you’re in the film

Borough Market, London

Start your journey into the Bridget Jones’ lifestyle with a visit to the locations used in the first 2 movies? First up is Primrose Hill in north London, which starred in the opening credits of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). In south London, stop by Borough Market where Bridget’s fictional flat resides above The Globe pub.

Make that romantic trip out of the city and head to the quintessentially English village of Shere in Surrey. With a pretty pub, 12th-century village church, and duck pond, it’s easy to see why not just Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) but a host of other films used this as a location.

Where to get Bridget’s style

Style Mile, Glasgow

Not just known for her knickers, Bridget Jones’ cute English style can be emulated after a spree in one of Britain’s many great shopping cities and malls. Try destinations like the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham, St David’s Shopping Centre in Wales’ capital Cardiff, and Glasgow’s Style Mile.

Where to catch up on the gossip over cocktails

Angelica cocktail bar, Leeds

Nothing says sophisticated adult like a night at a cocktail bar with friends, and trendy northern city Leeds has plenty that Bridget would approve of. Try Angelica which is located on the sixth floor of Trinity Leeds – an ultra-modern shopping centre, and has a wraparound outdoor terrace with panoramic city views. Or head to Mook, a stylish bar with tunes for dancing the night away.

Getting there: Leeds is in the north of England, and is 1 hour by train from Manchester, and 2 hours 30 minutes by train from London.

Where to go clubbing with your trusty mates

Cavern Club, Liverpool

Liverpool is one of Britain’s most exciting locations for a good night out, with its atmospheric streets lined with cocktail bars, old-fashioned boozers, bistros and clubs. Where better to experience that real Liverpudlian hospitality than at The Cavern Club. Go for the mind-blowing fact this where The Beatles first played, stay for the dancing into the small hours.

Getting there: Liverpool is in north west England. It is 1 hour by rail from Manchester, or 2 hours 30 minutes from London.

Where to be a festival-goer like Bridget

Crowd at Glastonbury Festival

If you’ve seen the film trailer for Bridget Jones’s Baby, then you will have spotted that one of Britain’s most famous festivals plays its part. Glastonbury Festival covers a huge site resembling a city with so many different areas, stages, markets and places to chill out.

Glastonbury tickets sell out fast so prepare well in advance to get yours for 2017! There are tonnes of other festivals in Britain though, like Secret Garden Party, Isle of Wight and Bestival.
